12 Things You Actually DO Have To Give Up At 27

Inspired by miss Whitney's dissection of the Thought Catalog article, "27 Things You Must Say Goodbye To At 27," I've decided to make a list of things you actually should give up at 27.

I tried to hit 27 things, but there just aren't that many things in life that you have to give up.

12 Things You Actually DO Have To Give Up When You Turn 27

1. Your dignity, because you need to experience a little humiliation before you decide who you really want to be.

2. Your money. For happy hours, concerts, girls nights, and dinner at that fancy place that you always wanted to go to as a kid, and can now afford to do on your own even if it's only once every six months.

3. Your preconceptions on what an adult should be, because the older you get, the more you realize that being an adult is nothing like what you thought it would be. Whether that be positive or negative, that's up to you.

4. The idea of the person who you thought you were going to be as a kid. Because it's probably not going to happen, though it might. Keep your dreams, but realize that you are who you are and love yourself as much as you can because otherwise life is going to suck.

5. Being easily offended, because part of the beauty of this world is that we all do have different opinions were all totally different people. Learn to accept that not everybody is going to feel the same way you do about everything and you'll be a much happier person.

6. Your preconceptions about people. People will surprise you, and you have to give them a chance to do so.

7. While were on it, being judge-y. Judging somebody before you know them is not the way to live your life. You'll lose a lot of wonderful people and a lot of wonderful experiences if you do so.

8. Your inhibitions. Just a little bit. Always wanted to go skinny-dipping? Do it. Always wanted to take a last-minute road trip with your girlfriends? Do it. Later on in life, these will be the things that you're happy that you did, not the things that you regret not doing.

9. The idea that you have to give things up because you're an adult. Be a kid for as long as you can, because you have a lot more time in life as an adult than you do as a child. Plus the more childlike you are, if and when you have kids, you'll relate to them better and have more fun.  The best people are children at heart.

10. Grudges, because life is too short to waste so much of it on hate. Unless that bitch really did you wrong, in which case you hold that grudge, girl.

11. Lying, because it's not a good look on anyone and it never was. But sometimes, in the past, you had to do it. Nows the time to step up to the plate and embrace your mistakes and let people know that you know who you are.

12. I want to lie to you and tell you that this isn't the truth, but I just can't do it. Let's be real, every now and then you have to give up a grilled cheese for salad. That's just the way the diet, sugar-free cookie crumbles.

    1. Thank you! I started thinking about it and all I could come up with that you HAD to give up, was everyone elses expectations of who you should be. So I wanted everyone to know that.
